Program Levels

I like Schwinn exercise bikes, but have been frustrated with the display of intervals on the screen, due in large part to the small screen size:

  • When choosing a program and level at the beginning of your workout, you can only get a very rough idea of what the intervals look like
  • Programs are 50 intervals long, but only 12 display on the screen at one time
  • You can't see previous intervals
  • There are 16 levels, but only 8 "block graphics". You can read the little numbers on the side to find out if you're really at level 5 or 6, but you have no way of knowing whether that next block up is a jump of just 1 level or maybe as many as 3 levels

Therefore, over the past couple years I have collected program and interval level data for all 160 levels in the onboard digital computer, part number 18142 for the Schwinn 213R. This represents a collection of 8,000 data points for all program and interval levels.

Many Schwinn exercise bicycles use identical level information.

Even if you don't have this specific computer or even a Schwinn, often times browsing level information from another bike will give you some hints and guidelines about your own.

Anatomy of a program level:

(Each full block picture of a full block represents 2 interval levels and each half block image of a half block represents 1 interval level.)

Other Ways to View Program Level Graphs

There are several other options for viewing the above Program Level Graphs (images) instead of using the grid above. These options are:

Track

Want to track levels yourself as you exercise? Open this 50-level blank table document and print it in landscape mode, then you can track your own levels! If your exercise bike uses 60 levels, open this 60-level blank table document and print in landscape mode using "shrink to fit".
